Octatonic and Gin (Solo Piano)

$7.50

Octatonic and Gin is a lively and 'merry' piece exploring the 3rd mode of the octatonic scale. Using the full range of the piano, the piece travels through di!erent moods, starting with a lively opening theme in the A section, where the disjointed melodic line is developed throughout. The B section brings a more pensive mood to the piece, with a falling line against syncopated accompaniment introducing the second theme in bar 22, which gets developed further through the strident C section. The main theme returns abruptly at E, before a majestic fanfare heralds the end of the piece, before a cheeky nod to the main theme in the last bar.

This piece is suitable for HSC Australian Music of the Past 25 Years unit, and is roughly Grade 8+ standard.
