Neurodivergency Suite is a musical look into the neurodivergent mind, or at least in this case, mine. The first movement, Clarity, describes the few instances of clarity, a break in the fog. The odd time signatures and phrasing allude to the ever present awareness that this clarity could go at any moment as one savours this rarity. The second movement, discombobulation, centres around a feeling of confusion, fogginess, and dissociation that often occurs post clarity, or when one tries to ‘think clearly’ after being on autopilot. Finally, the 3rd movement tackles the all too familiar feeling of anxiety that many neurodivergent folk experience. Announcing itself at the end of the second movement with a shriek, a sense of unease develops, before a free improvisation section allows the performers to explore their own ideas around anxiety. The theme returns in a glitchy manifestation, alluding to the glitchy brain experience post anxiety attack.
